The project aims to improve person-centred and diversity-sensitive care for older people with migration background through the development of a training program, open educational resources and policy recommendations.

COORDINATE will facilitate improved access to existing survey data on child wellbeing, increase longitudinal survey capacity across Europe, extend the Growing Up in Digital Europe (GUIDE/Eurocohort) survey network, and initiate the GUIDE survey with a large-scale cohort pilot survey in Croatia, Finland, France and Ireland.

This project aims to map evidence of innovative purchasing arrangements beyond pay-for-performance measures that have been used to strengthen service delivery models for people living with chronic diseases and to identify the mechanisms through which these purchasing arrangements have impacted quality of care.

This project aims fill gaps in the current knowledge of gender inequalities in unpaid work (e.g. informal care, childcare) as well as social and individual activities. It will develop and implement an online panel on these issues, covering the whole of the EU and make a direct contribution to the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025.

This study, coordinated by EFTHEIA and CEPS (Belgium), set out to fill selected knowledge and analytical gaps in the area of LTC in order to support the identification of policy relevant problems and related options with a view to the future EU initiative on access and quality of LTC, as well as how to better support informal carers.

UNICEF’s Situation Analysis guides national institutions in promoting human development and fulfilment of human rights. It is used to assess the progress, challenges and opportunities to achieve children’s and adolescents’ rights and their wellbeing in Croatia.

Exchange, cooperation and mutual trust between social workers and police officers are needed to fostering social inclusion of marginalised people in public places. A joint training has been developed and can be integrated in existing training schedules at schools of social work and in police academies.

Following the abolishment of the asset contribution from users of residential care (Pflegeregress), this study aims to demonstrate the impact of this measure across the income and wealth distribution in Austria, as well as the impact of alternative funding mechanisms.

This study will analyse the current child protection policies in Albania, Armenia, Belarus, North Macedonia and Ukraine and evaluate how a new SOS Children’s Villages Worldwide regional programme will contribute to the human rights of children in these countries.

European countries rely heavily on the family for the provision of long-term care (LTC). Using the different institutional settings of Austria and Slovenia, we explore determinants of care use, both in terms of type of care and tasks provided.

Gender has an important influence on how needs for long-term care arise, evolve, are experienced and addressed. This project aimed to develop a conceptual framework to address the gender dimension in LTC for the WHO Europe region.

The European Centre developed and implemented monitoring and evaluation tools to contribute to the implementation of an integrated system for long-term care in Slovenia.

The project contributed to the effective transformation of the social service system in Kosovo by focusing on improved quality, availability and sustainability of local social and community-based service delivery for children and vulnerable people living at social risk.

This project provided support to DG EMPL in the assessment of the calls for proposals and selected projects in the context of programmes to transform institutional care to community-based services (deinstitutionalisation) in Hungary.

The annual European Conference on the Day of Persons with Disabilities is part of the EU’s efforts to promote the mainstreaming of disability issues and to raise awareness of the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. The European Centre acted as Rapporteur.

The interest in a human rights-based approach resulted in the development of this index to monitor policies related to care and support of older people and to assess the extent to which countries protect and enforce the rights of older people.

This project addressed the multiple challenges at the interfaces between health systems and long-term care (LTC) to develop recommendations and solutions with improved outcomes in terms of quality of care from a patient’s perspective, effectiveness, efficiency and equity.

The European Centre carried out a survey and organized focus groups amongst residents in general medicine and pediatrics to assess their motivation, expectations and preferences to work in primary care in the Vienna region of Austria.

The European Centre reviewed methods for the economic evaluation of eHealth, identified methodological challenges as well as potential solutions. An analysis of eHealth applications across Europe also looked at related decision-making processes.

Taking a gender perspective on the health status and its determinants among European men, this report includes the effect of retirement on health, the living arrangements of older men, the role of men as informal carers and the issues of loneliness, social isolation and health.

About 40 Austrian care homes have attained a certification by the Austrian National Quality Certificate. The assessment of results has been one of the major challenges for care home managers and external auditors. 

To ensure the sustainability and efficacy of long-term care systems, it is paramount to have a well-qualified, motivated and healthy workforce. Having a good picture of the present working conditions of the long-term care workforce helps to anticipate future needs.

Taking the universal health coverage (UHC) pledge that is part of the Sustainable Development Goals as a starting point, this project aimed to develop a conceptual note that reflects on how UHC can be extended to long-term care and the policy implications deriving from that.

To identify socio-economic groups at disadvantage and in need to be targeted by policies, we analysed living conditions and their determinants, e.g. income, wealth, poverty, taxes and benefits, access to health, long-term care, social mobility, social inclusion.

MOPACT provided the research and practical evidence upon which Europe can begin to make longevity an asset for social and economic development.

The study developed a framework for community care for people with dementia which emphasises the dynamics of care and support needs in the course of the disease and discusses the resulting shifts of roles and interaction between different stakeholders.

The European Centre prepared a background paper to be presented at a capacity-building workshop for local stakeholders in Krivogaštani (6-7 June 2016) to advance the development of innovative projects in rural Macedonia.

The project focused on socio-economic inequalities in the ability to actively age (AA) and investigated the links between the unequal distribution of resources needed to lead a fulfilling life and AA achievement in European countries.

In a project to improve the framework conditions for employed relatives providing care in Switzerland, the European Centre carried out an in-depth analysis of good practices in other countries and developed a framework for the analysis of (typical) care leave models.

The project provided policy lessons and mutual learning opportunities on the introduction of market mechanisms in long-term care and their outcomes for users, quality of care, management of care markets and quality management systems.

With the objective of extending healthy life years across the EU, the project developed, tested, surveyed and catalogued social innovations that will have a solid impact on improving the quality of life and well-being of older people.

The study explored to what extent integrated care of older people has been achieved in a context of market-oriented governance promoting competition and user choice, and how different stakeholders are coping with related challenges.

This study identified key factors of quality in long-term care delivery and potential improvements of working conditions from the perspective of care professionals in all settings of long-term care in Austria.

In the wake of the economic and financial crisis, public spending cuts on healthcare services have been widespread, with important consequences for access to care and potentially on population health. Funded by Eurofound, this project seeks to examine how access to healthcare has evolved as a result of the crisis, and in particular which groups within the population have been disproportionately affected.

This project explored five aspects of cross-border health care: provisions with regard to the continuing quality of health professionals; treatment pathways; the content and scope of medical records; medical prescribing; and the reporting of quality in both health and long-term care. It also looked at three areas where there is existing cross-border activity, namely between hospitals in border areas, in the field of telemedicine, and with patients travelling across border to seek dental treatment.

This project carried out a diagnosis of key policy areas for development in active and heatlhy ageing for the Czech Republic, as well as possible interventions, building on the Active Ageing Index and selected good practices across Europe.

The index measures the extent to which older people can realise their full potential in terms of total and healthy life expectancy, participation in the economy, in social and cultural life and in terms of independent living.The project team also analyses the gap between the actual situation and an ideal state, where the latter would be based on empirical observations of best performing countries.

The results of this project will help people in Europe who work with and represent older people in need of long-term care (LTC). Health and social care professionals, policy makers, people from administrative agencies, and people working in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are inspired to work towards integrated systems of LTC as well as to improve planning and delivery of services for frail older people at the interfaces between formal and informal care, and between social and health care.

The main goal of CARICT was to investigate the potential impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on informal carers of older people living in the community (e.g. relatives and friends) as well as on paid assistants employed by private households.
