The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research is conveniently located in easy walking distance to the stop Schottentor (exit ‘Hohenstaufengasse’) on the U2 underground line or the stop Roßauer Lände (exit ‘Roßauer Lände’) on the U4 underground line. It can also be reached using the tramway line D (stop ‘Schlickgasse’), 1 or 2 (stop ‘Börse’) or bus 40 A (stop ‘Berggasse’).
(Please note that the stop 'Roßauer Lände' on the underground line U4 (direction ‘Heiligenstadt’) is closed due to construction works until end of June 2019, please get off at the stop ‘Schottenring’.)
Once you have arrived at Berggasse 17, please proceed through the courtyard to the entrance on the left side.
When arriving at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat you can choose from several possibilities to get to the European Centre.
Take the underground line U1 (direction ‘Leopoldau’) get off at stop ‘Karlsplatz’, continue with the underground line U2 (direction ‘Seestadt’) and get off at stop ‘Schottentor’, exit ‘Hohenstaufengasse’. The European Centre is within 5 minutes walking distance from there.
Vienna International Busterminal (VIB) is the central arrival and departure place for international bus connections. Take the underground line U3 (direction ‘Ottakring’) and get off at stop ‘Volkstheater’, continue with the tram line D (direction ‘Nußdorf’) and get off at stop ‘Schlickplatz’. The European Centre is within 5 minutes walking distance from there.
The taxi ranks are in front of the airport. A ride from the airport to the European Centre takes about 30 minutes and will cost about € 40.
For the suburban railway S-Bahn, underground and tram you need a ticket that can be purchased from the vending machines before entering the platforms.
The price for a single ticket for the underground or the tram is € 2.60. Single tickets (Einzelfahrscheine) can be used to travel once in one direction and are valid from the time they are punched in a validating machine located at the entrance of underground stations as well as on buses and trams. You may change between tram, bus and underground as often as you like, but without interrupting travel. Apart from single tickets there are passes for longer periods of time.
