BACKGROUND

Eurofound regularly publishes working life country profiles for EU member states and has recently included candidate countries such as Albania. The profiles aim to present an overview of the industrial relations and working conditions in each country in the same comparable template. This was the first time that a country profile was prepared for Albania.

AIMS

The aim was to provide an overview of the processes, actors and trends in the fields of industrial relations and working conditions in Albania.

METHODS

Desk research and review of existing data.

ACTIVITIES/MILESTONES

Preparation and publication of a country report.

FINDINGS

  • Key economic and labour market figures and background.
  • Actors and institutions (trade unions, employers’ organisations and public institutions playing a role in the governance of the employment relationship, working conditions and industrial relations structures).
  • Collective bargaining (system and levels).
  • Industrial action and disputes (legal aspects and data).
  • Individual employment relations (employment relationship, entitlements and obligations).
  • Pay (wage developments and minimum wage).
  • Working time (regulation and flexibility).
  • Health and well-being (health and safety at work and psychosocial risks).
  • Skills, learning and employability (national systems, training).
  • Work organisation (figure from the European Company Survey).
  • Equality and non-discrimination at work (equal pay and quota regulations).
  • Working life links and bibliography.
