This working paper is a workshop report based on expert input and literature review and examines how the green transition is affecting job quality and working conditions in the six countries of the Western Balkans (WB6). It is co-authored by European Centre researchers Sonila Danaj and Sabina Gjylsheni together with Mihail Arandarenko as part of the project "Comparative analysis of job quality and working conditions in the Western Balkans". The paper takes stock of the existing literature on green transition in the EU and the region (e.g. Eurofound, 2024; 2025; European Commission, 2024; Hancke et al., 2021; World Bank, a&b) and discusses the drivers of the greening of the WB6 as well as the impact these drivers might have in the region in the next ten years. The scenario-building exercise u was conducted with experts from the region with knowledge of both the national context and the subject matter. The forward-looking approach, challenges and opportunities for jobs in the green transition, and potential implications of the scenarios can assist national stakeholders in preparing policy actions in the WB region.
