Policy brief: The importance of timely data sharing for posted construction workers in Italy

DATE

29/06/2022

This policy brief shows how timely sharing of collected data could effectively contribute to the enactment of labour standards in the sector of posted construction workers. Posted work is a marginal but growing phenomenon in Italy. The country is a net sender even though incoming posted workers are on the rise. Construction is the third receiving sector and its recent boom could favour further fluxes of workers. Monitoring agencies collect a great amount of data on posted workers but more effective sharing mechanisms could be put in place. Our analysis shows that, by timely sharing of the data they collect, the Posting Observatory and the Construction Workers’ Fund provincial offices could effectively support labour inspectors and social partners to better guarantee the enactment of labour standards in the sector.
