International Workshop: SARS-CoV-2: What have we learnt to strengthen long-term care systems?

On 6 and 7 December 2021 more than 100 researchers from around the globe participated in the international workshop on COVID-19 and long-term care systems, organised online by the International Long-Term Care Policy Network (ILPN). “What have we learnt and what policies do we need to strengthen LTC systems?” was the key question of the event, to which dozens of country-reports and presentations of original research provided precious evidence for tackling the next waves of the pandemic in a more person-centred and better coordinated way. Kai Leichsenring presented some insights (and the lack of learning experiences) from Austria. All presentations can be accessed here.

The workshop also served to launch the LTCCovid International living report, a “wiki-style” report addressing 64 questions on characteristics of long-term care (LTC) systems, impacts of COVID-19 on LTC, measures adopted to mitigate these impacts and new reforms countries are adopting to address structural problems in LTC systems and to improved preparedness for future events.
