Recognising the growing significance of temporary employment of migrant workers in EU labour markets, the JUSTMIG project investigates the impact of temporary migrant employment in Austria and 8 other migrant sending and receiving countries. The Austrian case study focuses on sectors where temporary migrant workers are increasingly present, namely, care and food manufacturing. The large share of the foreign workforce in Austria demonstrates the relevance of studying the existing representation institutions and actors and their relations with this workforce.
The European Centre organized a national workshop to discuss the findings from the background report for Austria, prepared by the researchers at the European Centre, and to gather inputs and insights from stakeholders of the selected sectors. Invited participants were from organisations such as Caritas, Arbeiterkammer, UNDOK, Rotes Kreuz, IG 24-Stunden-Betreuung, Produktionsgewerkschaft -PROGE Wien, and the WKO.
Next up in the project, the researchers will go into the fieldwork to conduct interviews with the workers and stakeholders in our sectors of focus, live-in care and food manufacturing on the topic of temporary migrant employment, to gather information about their work conditions, and relationship with the social partners and national institutions in Austria.
