DESCRIPTION

This article investigates how widowhood and living arrangement transitions are associated with the use of home and community-based long-term care among older European women and men with care needs. Drawing on comparable, longitudinal data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement (SHARE), and applying a specified multi-level modelling approach, it examines both cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of widowhood, living alone and care use. The article also looks at how the intersection of sex and socio-economic status and resources influences care use patterns of older women and men in need of care. The article is based on the research carried out as part of the FutureGEN project.
