The project – as a follow-up to our studies in 2003 and 2015 – aims at the quantitative and qualitative reassessement of people not covered by health insurance in Austria. It focuses on an estimation of the number of people concerned, their socio-demographic characteristics, causes for non-coverage and their coping behaviour in case of illness.
For the quantitative part we use register data by the umbrella organisation of the health insurance fund and by Statistics Austria (data on residence population, insured persons, cross-border commuters, specific groups like chamber-related professionals, etc.), for the qualitative part we run a survey on clients in ambulant facilities caring also for people not covered by health insurance.
