PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

Magdi Birtha

BACKGROUND

The European Commission organises this annual conference in partnership with the European Disability Forum to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This 2-day event takes place on 28 - 29 November 2024 in Brussels and brings together more than 400 policy-makers, high-level experts and disability advocates. The wide participation of persons with disabilities allowed for hearing their concerns and aspirations and to establish a dialogue with public authorities and other stakeholders. Magdi Birtha from the European Centre acts as Rapporteur.

AIMS

Among other key topics, the 2024 conference discusses how to make the second phase of the implementation of the EU Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities 2021-2030 a success. Furthermore persons with disabilities' right to independent living and accessible and inclusive cities are in the focus. The conference will be closed by the 15 year anniversary Access City Award ceremony, where the winner of the 2025 Access City Award will be announced.
