Our colleague, Magdi Birtha, presented the final study “Targeted measures for persons with disabilities to cope with the cost-of-living crisis” at the European Parliament last week during the Annual Workshop on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the Committee on Petitions.
Our study concludes:
- Recent crises affect persons with disabilities and their families disproportionately and a rising share of them are unable to keep their home adequately warm.
- There is a lack of publicly available EU-level data on energy poverty of persons with disabilities.
- Persons with disabilities remain invisible in policy efforts and may unintendedly be further marginalized.
- More effort is needed to monitor the impact of the ongoing crises and of already implemented policy measures on the quality of life.
