The future of the Austrian Welfare State and its role in times of crises were discussed at the event "With the welfare state through the crises" in the Austrian Parliament on 18 October. On invitation of the acting president of the Federal Council, Korinna Schumann, and the publishing house of the Austrian Trade Union, Adi Buxbaum (member of the editorial office of sozialleistungen.at), Michael Fuchs (European Centre), Silvia Hruška-Frank (director of the Chamber of Labour Vienna), and Ingrid Reischl (chief secretary of the Austrian Trade Union) discussed on how the welfare state could be made crises-resistant and fit for the future. Thereby, Michael Fuchs analysed the state support within the current inflation crisis (one-off payments and structural measures) and the potential role of the EU in combating the high inflation.
