Based on the European Centre’s study “Simulating more generous unemployment benefits”, an A&W blog shows how an increase in unemployment benefits in Austria would have an immediate and positive impact on the financial security of job seekers by reducing their exposure to poverty. The blog underlines that, even if this increase cannot completely prevent poverty, every additional euro is an important improvement in the income situation of households. A stable income situation is important to be able to concentrate on finding a job and offers people confidence and a positive perspective on life. In addition, a high unemployment benefit maintains job seekers’ purchasing power, which contributes to positive economic development and the creation or preservation of jobs.
