The pandemic has made the fractures in delivering long-term care even more visible. It is necessary to strengthen the identity of long-term care systems in the community by developing integrated and person-centred health and social care. A key challenge will be to recruit, train and retain appropriate staff to boost the sector’s professionalisation both quantitatively and qualitatively. Kai Leichsenring presented the European Centre’s analyses and recommendations on air at the Austrian radio station Ö1 and during an online media conference, organised by the Austrian science net DISKURS.
