Project news: OECD webinar on FutureGEN

Ricardo Rodrigues presented early findings from two forthcoming papers from the project FutureGEN at the OECD Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Directorate webinar series, on 25 September 2020.

The first paper focuses on cohort trajectories of functional decline in old-age across sex/gender lines. Using data from SHARE and growth curve models we show that sex/gender differences in prevalence of ADLs in old-age may be abating in younger cohorts albeit with marked variations across European regions.
The second paper investigates the gendered effects of widowhood on the probability to receive care among older people with care needs in Europe. Using the panel features of SHARE we are able to demonstrate that transitions to widowhood increase the probability to receive care among widows, but have no effect on widowers. Furthermore, this effect is independent of living arrangements.
