New project: Study on Intergenerational Fairness

DATE

10/01/2020

The purpose of the study contracted by DG Employment and carried out together with FGB and LSE is to pursue an assessment of various possible policy choices while providing a methodology for assessing intergenerational fairness. The study investigates how EU-28 Member States fare in terms of intergenerational fairness and how their performance changed in the wake of economic crisis, disentangling the market effect from the impact of public policies. The focus will be on policy reforms and on automatic stabilizers built in the tax and benefit systems to show the extent to which they had a distributional impact on the income of the different age groups and cohorts. The research will include policy recommendations and an analysis of political economy considerations of intergenerational fairness.
