What future for long-term care in Slovakia?

DESCRIPTION

How and in which direction should long-term care services and facilities be further developed in the Slovak Republic? These and related issues were tackled during a high-level policy seminar with experts from the administration of Slovakia and the Worldbank on 11 December 2012 in Bratislava. The Ministry of Health is in the process of defining its medium term strategy for health and is currently assessing the performance of the health system, the main challenges and how to address these in the future. The process includes engaging in more micro-analysis of certain parts of the health system. One major aspect of concern is the aging of the population which goes hand in hand with increasing health care costs and puts a different demand on health care providers’ skills and education. Maria Hofmarcher and Kai Leichsenring provided theoretical and practical inputs based on experiences in OECD countries to better link health and long-term care reforms in Slovakia.
