Katarina Hollan co-authored a chapter in the German-language ‘Handbuch Reichtum [Handbook on Wealth]’. The book covers the topic of wealth from different perspectives such as sociology, economics, history, gender studies, politics and cultural studies.

The chapter deals with gender inequalities and the distribution of wealth. While the gender pay gap is widely researched, the gender wealth gap has so far received much less attention even though large disparities exist. The authors analyse the reasons for a wealth glass ceiling for women across 8 EU countries (Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Portugal and Slovakia) and find that institutions and social factors/norms contribute greatly to the gender wealth gap.
