DESCRIPTION

The rationale behind the basic security is that monetary benefits for children should be stronger related to the material situation of the household and the (lacking) financial resources for children. It would replace family allowance and child tax credit and would consist of an universal component of EUR 285 for every child below 18 years and an income-dependent component of up to EUR 587. At costs of EUR 4.6 billion the benefit would reduce child poverty to a low 3%.
