The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research held jointly with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Services of the State of Israel an International Expert Meeting on "Monitoring Long-Term Care for the Elderly".

Aims:
The aim was to review policy developments on long-term care in Israel and other 56 countries in the Region of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). International and Israeli experts exchanged views on a broad range of themes such as:
  • Quality of care
  • Challenges facing the care sector workforce and the role played by foreign workers
  • Establishing a continuum of care services for the elderly
  • Home care vs. institutional care

The publication of the European Centre on
"Facts & Figures on Long-term Care
Europe and North America"
was presented for the first time at the Meeting and served as a core background document for the discussion.

The Meeting took place in Jerusalem from the 6th till the 10th of September 2009, in cooperation with the Association for the Planning and Development of Services for the Aged in Israel. There were two days of plenary presentations and discussions in the meeting, with one day of on-site visits of long-term care facilities.
