Andres Vikat
Since 2005, Andres Vikat is the Chief of the Population Activities Unit at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), based in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr Vikat has been actively involved in international discussions on population related policies and has a long track in interdisciplinary research on population issues. His unit is organizing policy discussion on a broad range of ageing related issues and is coordinating the Generations and Gender Programme - a Europe-wide programme of data collection and research to support population related policymaking. After receiving a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki in 1994, Andres Vikat has held teaching and research positions at the Universities of Helsinki, Tampere and Stockholm and at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research.
